Laurier Park
For
over a century, this lot was occupied by the Dubuc and Limoges
limestone quarries. The stone from the quarries, for which Montreal
was famous, was used in many local buildings and monuments, including
Notre-Dame Church and Bonsecours Market.
Families soon settled nearby, and the Village of Coteau Saint-Louis
was born. In the late 1800s, the City of Montreal purchased the
depleted quarries and used the area as a dump. The park you see
before you was created by the City in 1925.
